No direct train from Delhi to Srinagar
After the completion of the Srinagar – Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway line, it has been confirmed that there will be no direct trains from Delhi to Srinagar.
With train services set to operate between Srinagar and New Delhi, it has been confirmed that all trains travelling to Srinagar or returning to New Delhi will halt at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway station.
Why No direct trains to Kashmir?
Well there are several factorsbut the main is Security
We all know Kashmir has a unique geopolitical status and every day we get to know several incidents in the Kashmir valley it’s very challenging to maintain peace and stability in the valley although in the current scenario condition in the valley is under control and our forces is toiling day and night to maintain law and order in the region.
After the opening of the Katra- Srinagar railway line security will be the most challenging part to play and no one wants to leave any margin of error so while travelling from Delhi to Katra passengers will have to deboard the train at Katra railway station and there will be security checks of passengers and their luggage.
After clearing the security checks passengers can board the train from Katra to Srinagar.
Effect on Passengers
Passengers/Tourists travelling to Srinagar/Delhi had to change their train at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and this is problematic as they had to book two tickets and in peak season getting confirmed tickets is rare so what if they get confirmed tickets from Srinagar to Katra but not from Katra to Delhi. It is the same when they have connecting trains what if one train gets delayed and they miss their connecting train?
Effect on Fruit Growers Cum Dealers
The Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union said the current system already fails to address logistical challenges, potentially harming the industry, now after opening the Katra Srinagar line with no direct connectivity to Delhi will effect heavily smooth transportation for timely deliveries.

Train Time table Katra to Srinagar /Srinagar to Katra
Kashmir Valley Vande Bharat Express will depart Katra at 8.10 am and will arrive in Srinagar at 11:20 am.
Return Vande Bharat will depart from Srinagar at 12:45 pm and arrive in Katra at 3:55 pm
Mail express will leave Katra at 9:50 am and arrive in Srinagar at 1:10 pm
Return express train will leave Srinagar at 3:05 pm and arrive in Katra at 6:30 pm
Another Mail express will depart from Katra at 3:00 pm and arrive in Srinagar at 6:20 pm
The first train from Srinagar will be a mail express which will depart from Srinagar at 8:45 am and will arrive in Katra at 12:05 pm
